10 Hyper-Realism Studies
After just over a week of working, I created 10 small, Hyper Realism pieces, the subject being lips. I chose to work with Prismacolor pencils, it was also my first time working with colored pencils on something that involved so much detail. The point of my work was to communicate diversity and how there is beauty in everyone. People will be drawn to the texture that I created in my piece, therefore making the person look more closely into the detail that I went into.
Media Mastery
Most Excellent
For this project, I did two pencil drawings of Bill and Ted from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". I simply used poster paper, similar to cardstock, and a #2 pencil to create it. The expression on my subjects' faces makes you wonder what they were looking at and thinking about. This creates visual interest in the piece.

Self-Portrait
After completing a series of synetic pieces that were centered around aliens, I decided to continue that theme in my synetic self-portrait. I have most recently completed a self-portrait in my Intro. to Painting class last semester. From memory, I recreated the clothes that I was wearing and the way my hair laid when we took reference images. Other than the composition being similar, you may not have realized that I used the same reference image for them because I used Picasso's design techniques for that one.
Last semester, I learned quite a few new techniques to use for acrylic painting. One of the most important techniques is to think about the process before you begin. For example, you should paint the background before the foreground to create smoother lines and less work for yourself in the future. After finishing my painting, I went back to add more depth and to outline everything using a liner brush. I specifically wanted the "cartoon" style.
Overall, I wanted to create something humorous. Most of my stuff is either nice to look at or relates to a serious topic. That stuff is great but, in my opinion, it can become boring and weak over time. For this project, I wanted to experiment and get a little out of my comfort zone. I am obsessed with all things aliens, so it was not difficult to come up with a design and concept. I believe that I was successful with this piece.

Product vs. Process
Weight vs. Void
Over my spring break, I researched simple biomorphic and mandala designs. Eventually, I settled on a circular pattern. Then, I went outside to the sidewalk that leads to my front door and used bird seed from my garage, I poured it into little piles and used my fingers to form the circles. The final design reminds me of the flower of life; reminding me of creation and destruction. Almost everything we do in life can be simplified to either creating or destroying, which makes this piece thought-provoking.

Video and Audio Processing Reflective of Subculture
In my free time, I watch ASMR (autonomous sensory meridian response) videos. After watching so many on slime, I wanted to create my own compilation showcasing not only the variety of slime types but the slime ASMR subculture itself. The video is meant to bring stress and anxiety relief to the viewers of it. Not very many people know of ASMR and the benefits and joy it brings, so by publishing this video I hope to inform more people.

Performance Based Media
Working with two other artists, Shanna Wallingford and Madison Martin, we planned and created a project that showed our school spirit. We worked as a team to make our project a performance based media that included the help of several classmates.
The planning we did was the most important part of this project. We discussed different methods and how we would make our idea performance based. After agreeing on a concept we traced two large Trojan heads and then cut them into sixteen pieces. The three of us divided the cut sections and chose a specific media to work in. We gave one square to one student and gave them two different colors to work with to fill in the square. This idea came to us from a video about a task party. We did this fifteen more times in other medias and colors. After they completed the sixteen pieces we put them together to make the full image.
The media used by the main artists were restricted to yarn, acrylic paint, and oil pastels. We all used the same colors to make a full comprehensible image that showed the Trojan head clearly. The medias used by the other students varied from colored pencils to colored feathers. We provided the student with the media and the colors they were going to use for their square. This was to ensure that there was no duplication of colors, especially to squares right next to one another.
We wanted to show school spirit, but also include the idea of a task party. However, limited by our school restrictions we decided to limit the task to the classroom we were in. We wanted to show what would happen if you were to give a group the same instructions, but different media and see what they would make.
Working as a team we were able to show a collaboration of ideas in one full image. Using the the other students as our hands we were able to experiment the how this project would end up.
